ForumsThe EEESTA Forum meetings bring together interested parties to try to understand & progress issues associated with the promotion of engineering, science & technology. The meetings have a dual purpose since they also attract potential members. The main topic currently is understanding the skills supply chain from primary school onwards with a view to trying to improve its performance. This is growing successfully. EEESTA is establishing county groups throughout the region. The Herts & Beds Group is well established Essex holds seminars for the public. EEESTA generally holds three to four Forum meetings per year throughout the EEESTA region.

Monika Green, Cambridge Consultants Monika Green leads Cambridge Consultants Healthcare Consulting and Innovation Management Division and specialises in working with clients in Technology and Innovation Management. Find out what a Scientific Consultant does, hear Monika’s story and find out the best ways of achieving your own ambitions. Monika Green has a first class honours degree in Chemistry from the University of Oxford and a Doctorate from Oxford University. She joined Cambridge Consultants from Celsis International where she was International Marketing Manager. Prior to joining Celsis, Monika was the European Research Manager at MediSense (UK) Inc. (now part of Abbott Inc.). Monika has worked for Cambridge Consultants for the past 10 years growing new business areas. Enthusing the Educators – Energising IndustryHeld on 18th January 2006 at the Science Learning Centre - East of England, Bayfordbury, Herts. It was hosted by Alison Redmore, the Director, who also conducted a tour of the centre. The mission statement for the Science Learning Centre is “To inspire a new generation of scientists by inspiring their teachers by securing and updating subject knowledge and extending teaching skills”. The meeting started with a tour of the facilities of the Science Learning Centre including the Planetarium. The objective was to engage in the debate as to how we enthuse the educators and continues the theme of exploring the needs and provision of engineering, science and technology skills within the East of England. Main speaker was Liz Johnson of the Skills for Energy Partnership comprising Cogent, ECITB, EU Skills, SEMTA, Norfolk LSC, DTI, EEDA, EEEGR, Renewables East. She stimulated a discussion as to how industry can engage in supporting the process. Inspiring the Young MindHeld at the Samuel Whitbread School, Shefford, Bedfordshire on 19th October, 2005 Challenge for Skills – making it happenSt. Neots Initiative – The Robinson Centre, St. Neots, Cambs, on 13 July 2005. “To explore the issues around skill requirements for the region” Philippa Wilding from the Samuel Whitbread Community College, Shefford, highlighted what specialist Science and Engineering Schools are doing to promote engineering. These speakers covered Junior Apprenticeships. The objective was to highlight the issues and experiences with a view to improving understanding and identify action areas where EEESTA can make a contribution |
